Hooray! There\u2019re no parents \u2013 especially mums \u2013 that I know of that are not ecstatic! Now at last they will be able to work in a quiet environment. Children, elementary school children in particular, are also extremely happy! They were so fed up and tired from online schooling, from no socializing, from having to stay indoors most of the time during the quarantine. The pressure they felt topped with the increased screen time has created lots of anger and often aggressive behavior.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">For me personally the most difficult part<\/span> was dealing with my 8-year-old daughter. Lots of pressure, anger and frustration and at times, aggressive behavior.\u00a0 Not easy to put my limits like I used to. Not easy to keep calm and going like I was \u201csupposed\u201d to. I must admit there were times this pressure got to me too and my handling of the situation was not the best. I kept on reminding myself that I\u2019m also a person, I\u2019m also vulnerable and I also have my moments. And no, I\u2019m not perfect and I sure don\u2019t pretend to be. J<\/p>\n<p>During this difficult period, I\u2019ve learned quite a few lessons. I\u2019ve also learned how to keep calm and on top of the situation while facing challenging behavior whether from my daughter or my husband. It goes without saying that <span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">I will keep these techniques in my precious \u201chow-to-keep-calm-and-set-my-boundaries\u201d tool kit.<\/span> Here they are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Flexibility <\/span>is a much needed friend.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Rules <\/span>are meant to be reviewed and rewritten.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Getting out of the room without saying a word <\/span>is the best initial reaction to the other person\u2019s aggressive behavior.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Getting into the other person\u2019s shoes <\/span>opens up your perspective.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Taking a step back and offering time and space <\/span>creates miracles both for your child and yourself.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Self-time <\/span>is a treasure.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Self-observation <\/span>deepens your understanding of your own behavior.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Expression of feelings without criticism <\/span>opens up communication.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Problem solving attitude <\/span>creates win-win solutions.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">Mistakes <\/span>are lessons for all.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Yes, schools are open. Yes, children are excited to see their schoolmates again and parents feel relieved to get their lives back. But life goes on and <span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">kids are kids, ready to break the rules and test their power and our patience.<\/span> When we learn how to handle difficult situations during \u201ccalm\u201d times <span style=\"color: #96c93e;\">we\u2019re much more prepared to react in fruitful ways<\/span> in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Schools have opened again.
